*squee!* In just over an hour I'm heading out to see the Yarn Harlot speak. She's speaking from 5.30pm until 8pm. I'm heading out early, because I don't know how busy it's going to be, or where exactly it's at inside the building. That, and I have to find parking, which might prove harder then normal, what with the Eugene Celebration starting. Yippie skippy to that.

So that's squee #1 anyway.

Squee #2: Dustin just put a closure on my knitting bag! That's right, ladies and gentleman. My knitting bag is now a proper knitting bag that can close and won't flop open all the time! I can actually...you know...use the damn thing without everything falling out! This makes me very happy! I wish I could show you what it looks like! Dustin picked out the buttons for it, one on the flap and one on the bag itself, with a leather cord to tie it together. It's pretty! *claps hands with glee* Now my bag is really something I can be proud to show off ^_^. By the way, every time I have taken it out somewhere, someone's complimented me on it. So cool!

Dangit, I really need to get a "Squee!!!!" icon ^_^

As for what else I've been up to...not a whole lot. At least nothing besides Prayer Shawls. Mind you, haven't been doing any crafting lately, as my arm's been acting up again. Hopefully I can get back to it again soon though. I've got several shawls lined up already that have been requested, and there's a few other projects in the wings still.
Heh, I just realized that in the background of those pictures is the afghan I made for Dustin. I don't think I ever made a picture of it. It still needs the ends tucked in, but maybe some day when I get around to it, I'll take pictures of it properly. For now, you'll have to make do with what you get ^_~

I felted the bag again yesterday. I thought it could do with one more run at least. I was right! The bag is now the size I had envisioned and it's even tighter in fabric now. Once it's thuroughly dry, I will try to take a picture of it and show it off. I'm pretty pleased with it though, and can't wait to use it.

Bah! I've been trying to felt my bag for a few hours now. By hand, of course. It's not doing a whole heck of a lot. It certainly isn't shrinking! The stitches are fading a little bit, but aside from that, nothing. I've decided I want one of those tabletop washers you plug into an outlet. That'd make felting a lot easier as long as we're in the appartment. Because frankly, this sucks, and it's very hard on my back. And yes, Dustin does try and help, but it hurts his back also. Needless to say, this is getting to be highly annoying. I'm hal ftempted to just throw it in the washer and be done with it, come what may.

**edit** Well, I just went ahead and put it in the dryer with a couple of towels. Hopefully it won't shrink too much in there. I just couldn't handle the hand-felting anymore. Bah. I just realized I forgot to take a before picture, but I will take one for after. Trust me when I say it is big and floppy at the moment**

**edit 2** *grumble* Well, the warm setting didn't do much for shrinkage. The stitches have faded some though. Put it in on the hot cycle now and added more friction still. If this doesn't do it, it must be superwash wool. Which would tick me off.**

So I finally cast off on my bag, and it looks as big as a tent, for pity's sake! I do hope I did it right and that it'll get some proper shape once felted. I also started on knitting the flap, and I learned a new skill to do so! I'm so proud! Obviously, I already learned how to pick up stitches (thank you again for that link, [livejournal.com profile] brightshadowsky), or else I'd not have been able to make the bag to begin with, but now I also know how to pick up stitches in the middle of a project, where there were really none before. I don't know if I'm explaining this right, but I think [livejournal.com profile] brightshadowsky will understand. It's the thing you showed me how to do while I was over at your place? Anyway, now I have the beginning of a flap that looks to come right out of the fabric, and it makes me proud ^_^.
I've also decided that I probably won't make it a bag with shoulderstraps, but with two handles instead. I'm thinking that it'd be better to knit the handles length-wise, and then knit them up to however thick I want them to be, since they'll shrink more in height/length then in width. Did that just make sense??? I do muddle on, don't I. Uhm, how to make it visual.....

Instead of knitting like I'd normally do ( ||||||||||||||||||||||) I'm going to knit so the strap will look like this (===========). Hope that made better sense.

I can't believe I'm almost done with it though. I do wish I could go and felt it right as it gets done. I'm anxious to see how it'll look *frets*. And not just that, but I am wanting to embellish the bag once it's felted, and then of course I shall want to use it ^_~

I wore my new sweater today to church and got loads of compliments from people. I feel so proud ^_^ And very pleased, of course. Didn't get any pictures taken though, so that'll have to keep. Even Trina loved how it worked out with the edging. When she showed me how to do it, she had her doubts, but now she loves it. May have to look into seeing if I can find some yarn that'd work for her and make her one as a gift or something. There's always birthdays and Christmas.
Speaking of gifts, Teresa and Earl said that when they've got the money, they'd buy some yarn as a belated birthday present. I'm happy that they're willing to do so, but in all honesty I'll believe it when I see it. No offense to them, but I've been down that road before with her. Oh well, if she does come through this time, it'd be really neat! There's a ton of stuff out there I want to make. Ohhhh the possibilities!
Speaking of possibilities. [livejournal.com profile] elfie_chan, I know you told me about Knitpicks.com, but here's another good website for yarn. They even have the Debi Bliss Baby Alpaca Silk yarn, for only $5.99, on sale! Cheapest I've seen it yet.

I've gotten quite far with my bag. I think I'm almost there. I'm running out of the grey wool though, but I'm ok with that. Only need a little bit more, I think. Hey, [livejournal.com profile] brightshadowsky, do you think it'd work out ok to knit a flap onto the bag before felting????? I'm not worried about it covering the whole thing, because I don't want it to anyway, but I'm more concerned about the blocking of the bag afterwards, and also about the flap getting stuck during felting. Any input? Same goes for the strap, by the way. Decided I want it felted as well, not going for the leather. Am getting a very definate idea of what I want it to look like, but not sure if it can, if you know what I mean lol.
Still need to get together with you online or over the phone about that sweater. Think I will re-read the pattern and see where I left off, maybe I can figure it out for myself now I've put it aside for a few days. I'll let you know, ok?

Yeah, I think that's enough craft babble for now. Can anyone tell I'm excited to be able to wear my own work? ^_^

Been knitting on my bag since yesterday. I'm already quite a ways with it. I haven't swatched at all, so I don't know how it'll felt up, but I think I'm safe as far as proportions go *crosses fingers*. It should work out to be a useable little bag. Wish me luck!

I had a knitting day with [livejournal.com profile] brightshadowsky, and it was a load of fun. You can read about it in my regular LJ. So I'm not going to waste to much time here on that subject. But it was fun, and I can't wait to do it again!

She helped me figure out the sleeves on a T I had started last year, so now I can finish it. I haven't done so yet, because I'll have to edge it with crochet, and I don't know the stitch needed yet. I'll need Trina's help with it, and I know I won't see her for a few days yet, so instead....
Instead! I have been working on the turtleneck sweater. I had some trouble understanding the pattern, but [livejournal.com profile] brightshadowsky got me over the roughest spot, which I am grateful for. Since I got home, I've been doing nothing but knitting (well, almost nothing), and I'm now done with the back!!! I had to call her once today to get some help, because the pattern was intent on confusing me, but other then that, I figured it out on my own. Well, sort of. I enlisted Dustin's help, or rather, his logic thinking, and between the two of us, it got worked out. I'm so pleased! I haven't started on the front yet, because I have been too busy catching up on LJ, but I will most likely do that tomorrow (it's getting close to bedtime for me),and then it shouldn't take me long at all to finish that. Then I'll just have to put it together and then figure out how to pick up stitches. May have to go to an LYS for that though, since I've never done that before.

*squeels with delight* Check out my new icon!!! [livejournal.com profile] brightshadowsky just made it for me *snugs [livejournal.com profile] brightshadowsky* Thank you!!!!! It's awesome and cool and just what I wanted!!!!! *does happy dance* And she's going to make me another one too, as soon as I send the picture to her. Weeeee!!! ^_^

Uhm..I'm sure there was more I was going to write, but now I've plum forgotten! Oh wait! We went and got a sweater to frog at Salvie's, and now I've got a ton of wool/roving in my closet, just begging to be made into a felted bag ^_^. I've got so many ideas for that yarn that I'm not sure what exactly will happen to it. But I've got another project in the planning. Like there aren't enough already, right ^_~. But it's all good. I'll finally get a bag for my knitting projects. No more plastic bags!

*sighs* Ohhh, to be able to do all the things that come to mind when browsing a LYS ^_^. Some day!
