naelany: (socks)
I got to meet one of the girls from Craftster yesterday. It was nice to put a face with the words. And best of all! She helped me with the sock-problem!!! I was right, the pattern wasn't right, which of course meant that my heel was off. She tinked it back for me, since I couldn't do it without messing it up. It felt so good to finally figure out how to turn the heel. I'm partway through knitting the gusset now, and so far that's going well. Once that's finished, I can try the sock on again and see if it still fits lol. Either way though, I am pleased with how my afternoon was spent.
We met at a coffeeshop and ended up at the LYS down the block. That was my first experience at just sitting down and knitting in a LYS, and having people chat and help and stuff. Oh, and ogle yarn, of course. It was quite funny to hear some of the ladies talk as they were "getting their fix" ^_~.

So yes, you can guess what I'll be doing today ^_~. Yep, you guessed it. I'm knitting! Well, that and a few other things of a crafty nature, since it's two weeks until the craft fair. But knitting, for sure!
naelany: (tea)
I did it!!! I finished my first pair of socks!!!! I wish I could show you guys, but ..well, no digital camera and all. I also just cast on for my second pair. I was trying to do them both at the same time, but got lost and ended up having to do the toes seperately, hopefully I can get myself back on track and do them both at the same time, since I'm not sure exactly how much yarn I've got. I tried to follow the pattern for doing 2 socks at a time, but will admit that I shut the computer off without printing the intructions out. My bad. Oh well. If it doesn't work, I'm sure I'll figure out something. But hey, one toe is done at least. I'm too tired to do the second one though, that'll be for tomorrow to do.
But yay! First pair of socks! Even if they're bigger them I normally have my socks. And yes, I did cast on with less stitches this time. Oddly enough, my gauge was the same as for my last ones, even with using a size smaller needles. So I deducted a few stitches *crosses fingers* Wish me luck!!!!!!!
naelany: (tea)
Triumph over teh sock!!!!!! I did it!!! Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] yarnpirate, for showing me that website last night!!!!!!! *jiggies* I got the toes done and just started on the foot. There's no holes this time or anything, I'm so proud! Now if I can only keep the sock going smoothly this time, and finish with a loose enough cast off, I'll be happy ^_^. I've got some sock yarn coming my way, courtesy of Shelley, so I'm so thrilled to finally have figured that part of the sock out. Next obstacle, the heel! But after the toe, I'm not so worried anymore. *jiggies*
Ok, now I have to scat, because I've got some suede fabric to pick up from a freecycler. She apparently gave it to me because she saw my website. Oops. I think I need to update that thing soon lol. It's not exactly recent, what's on there. But yay! Sock knitting!
naelany: (yarrrrrrrrrrrrrn)
*snugs* [livejournal.com profile] elfie_chan. Thanks for coming online today and helping me out with the hat! I'm about halfway done, I think, but my pain PMs just kicked in, so I'm calling it quits for today. Don't want to screw it up. So far, so good though. I am pleased. I'm hoping to finish the hat tomorrow, then I'll weave in all the ends of the various stuff I've been making for Trina, and then picture taking shall ensue *nods firmly*. Once this is done though, that means that in the last month I will have made and finished one Harry Potter type scarf, a couple of fingerless gloves and a hat. Again, I am pleased ^_^. I'm thinking that 2006 has been a highly productive year so far, and it's only the beginning of March!
I still have to finish the shirt I started last year though, but I've allowed myself to get sidetracked by these latest projects, since they're for Trina's birthday, which is later this month. Summer, after all, is a bit further away still ^_~.  In other words, once I'm done with these gifts, I'll be working on the shirt (most likely), and I will also be making another attempt at socks.
naelany: (yarnlust)
ok, I'm done for now lol. I just got shown this clapotis someone made, and I'm in love! It's gorgeous! I want one! I guess I add clapotis on my wish list to make for me lol
naelany: (Default)
I'm beginning to think that maybe I should finish the green top afterall. I'm going to be measuring myself (once my period's done with, for better accuracy), to see if I need to frog this one and go a size smaller, or if I can just finish it off as is. Then, providing I have enough yarn leftover to do so, I think I'll go crazy and make a matching little purse, and combine it with the free disco (aka muppet) yarn I got. The colors go well together, I think, and it'd be a good compliment for a bag (I think...it is in my head at least lol). Yeah, that actually sounds like a plan. Not one I can go and work on right now, as my period's not even started yet (but will any time..*sigh*),  but it'll be soon ^_^. And the sweater takes little time to knit, so I'm looking at another FO in the foreseeable future, and something for myself to boot. Yay ^_^.
I really would like to make the shrug that's on the front page of the newest Knit It magazine (sorry, I tried to Google for an image of it, but my Google-foo's not with me, as usual), but I don't have the yarn needed for it, and at the moment yarn isn't high on the priority list. Oh well. Soon...I hope

Am I crazy, by the way, for beginning to want to knit a clapotis? For the longest time, I've not been interested in it in the slightest. But then I saw this one (which, I'll grant, deviades a bit from the pattern) and it just started to...talk to me. Sorry, best way to describe it lol. And now I want to make one. Not sure yet as to when or with what, but the itch to knit it is there. I am crazy, aren't I
naelany: (Default)
I finally finished knitting and putting together the bag I've been working on. Now to felt it. Dustin's going to help me, but I doubt it'll happen today *looks over as he sleep, and sighs*. I can't wait to see how it turns out though.

I got my free skein of Disco yarn in today. I actually like the look of it. It's green and sparkly. A nice, dark green at that. Since it's only one skein, it's going to take some thinking to figure out what to make with it. Anyone have any ideas?????

I'm also working on my sock again. It's nice to see it come together again. Still have a ways to go with it though, not even halfway down the foot yet. But then, I've been busy with other stuff, like yet another prayer shawl. Which I ought to finish up, so I can give it away. I hope to get several things finished this week, so I can get soe space freed (is that the right way of writing that?) up in my yarn drawer. Getting the bag out there will help a lot, that's for sure.
I've decided to wait with finishing my green turtleneck sweater, since I'm losing weight. I have a feeling I may need to undo the whole thing here soon, because I've gone down in size already. Not a bad thing, really ^_~, I won't mind too much. At least not since it's for this reason lol.

I've got a few ideas running through my head as well at the moment. Not that I can do anything with it for the time being. Need to clean house first, create some space and stuff lol. I also need to figure out how to deorate the house for the holidays. I didn't have anything up last year, and I refuse to let that be the case again this year. I may not be getting a tree again, but dangit, Christmas it shall be!
naelany: (Default)
So maybe I won't be finishing my sweater this week. I did finish the front though, and I think it went ok. But I just started my period, not a good time to start anything finicky. It'll have to keep until after it's over with. Oh well

Progress!

So I finally cast off on my bag, and it looks as big as a tent, for pity's sake! I do hope I did it right and that it'll get some proper shape once felted. I also started on knitting the flap, and I learned a new skill to do so! I'm so proud! Obviously, I already learned how to pick up stitches (thank you again for that link, [livejournal.com profile] brightshadowsky), or else I'd not have been able to make the bag to begin with, but now I also know how to pick up stitches in the middle of a project, where there were really none before. I don't know if I'm explaining this right, but I think [livejournal.com profile] brightshadowsky will understand. It's the thing you showed me how to do while I was over at your place? Anyway, now I have the beginning of a flap that looks to come right out of the fabric, and it makes me proud ^_^.
I've also decided that I probably won't make it a bag with shoulderstraps, but with two handles instead. I'm thinking that it'd be better to knit the handles length-wise, and then knit them up to however thick I want them to be, since they'll shrink more in height/length then in width. Did that just make sense??? I do muddle on, don't I. Uhm, how to make it visual.....

Instead of knitting like I'd normally do ( ||||||||||||||||||||||) I'm going to knit so the strap will look like this (===========). Hope that made better sense.

I can't believe I'm almost done with it though. I do wish I could go and felt it right as it gets done. I'm anxious to see how it'll look *frets*. And not just that, but I am wanting to embellish the bag once it's felted, and then of course I shall want to use it ^_~
naelany: (Default)
I wore my new sweater today to church and got loads of compliments from people. I feel so proud ^_^ And very pleased, of course. Didn't get any pictures taken though, so that'll have to keep. Even Trina loved how it worked out with the edging. When she showed me how to do it, she had her doubts, but now she loves it. May have to look into seeing if I can find some yarn that'd work for her and make her one as a gift or something. There's always birthdays and Christmas.
Speaking of gifts, Teresa and Earl said that when they've got the money, they'd buy some yarn as a belated birthday present. I'm happy that they're willing to do so, but in all honesty I'll believe it when I see it. No offense to them, but I've been down that road before with her. Oh well, if she does come through this time, it'd be really neat! There's a ton of stuff out there I want to make. Ohhhh the possibilities!
Speaking of possibilities. [livejournal.com profile] elfie_chan, I know you told me about Knitpicks.com, but here's another good website for yarn. They even have the Debi Bliss Baby Alpaca Silk yarn, for only $5.99, on sale! Cheapest I've seen it yet.

I've gotten quite far with my bag. I think I'm almost there. I'm running out of the grey wool though, but I'm ok with that. Only need a little bit more, I think. Hey, [livejournal.com profile] brightshadowsky, do you think it'd work out ok to knit a flap onto the bag before felting????? I'm not worried about it covering the whole thing, because I don't want it to anyway, but I'm more concerned about the blocking of the bag afterwards, and also about the flap getting stuck during felting. Any input? Same goes for the strap, by the way. Decided I want it felted as well, not going for the leather. Am getting a very definate idea of what I want it to look like, but not sure if it can, if you know what I mean lol.
Still need to get together with you online or over the phone about that sweater. Think I will re-read the pattern and see where I left off, maybe I can figure it out for myself now I've put it aside for a few days. I'll let you know, ok?

Yeah, I think that's enough craft babble for now. Can anyone tell I'm excited to be able to wear my own work? ^_^
naelany: (Default)
Ha! I did it! I finished the edging of the sweater-T I was making! I am excited! I am using exclamation marks! I wish I could show it to you all, so you could see what I've been working on for so long. I think I'll try and wear it to church tomorrow, perhaps [livejournal.com profile] elfie_chan can take a picture with her digicam and e-mail it to me *looks hopeful*? Anyway, it's done, it's done! *does a happy dance*
naelany: (Default)
Been knitting on my bag since yesterday. I'm already quite a ways with it. I haven't swatched at all, so I don't know how it'll felt up, but I think I'm safe as far as proportions go *crosses fingers*. It should work out to be a useable little bag. Wish me luck!
naelany: (Default)
Ha! Just finished knitting the strap for my red bag. Just have to figure out what fabric to use for the lining of it, and then it's just a matter of sewing it all together, and it'll be done! Yippie! Hmm, may just start on my bag now. The call of my wool can be refused no longer! As long as I can find a good needle to knit it on ^_~
naelany: (Default)
So Trina just showed me how to do the edging on the sweater. Cool. Tried doing it, seems easy enough, but I can't concentrate at the moment, so aside it goes. Will pick it up when my head isn't all foggy. But yay, I can finish it!
Oh, I showed Trina this book of patterns I got, and she may just end up having me make some for her. She said she'd buy the yarn and stuff so I could make them. Not until things settle down for her though, but still. It's cool ^_^
naelany: (Default)
I have been a knitting fiend this last week. I've been working hard on my turtleneck sweater, and I'm almost done with the front. Just stuck on the neck of it, but hopefully I'll be able to get with [livejournal.com profile] brightshadowsky soon and figure it out.

Aside from that, I've finally put together the sweater I started last year, and Trina's stopping by tonight and hopefully is going to show me how to do the edging, so that'll be finished too.

I finished the prayer shawl I've been working on for ages, and gave it away last Sunday. She loved it.

I started knitting a bag out of the red acrylic yarn that [livejournal.com profile] needle_ninja gave me ages ago. The body of it is done and I know how I'll do the shoulderstrap. Once that's done, I am going to line it with fabric, so it won't sag and stretch. I learned how to pick up stitches on this one, which is cool.

I've been working on the BBBB I started ages ago and have not gotten very far yet. Not even halfway, but oh well.

Uhm, I think that's it. Still, a very productive week. Hopefully I can finish both sweaters fully this week, so I'll have something new to wear. I've got a ton of ideas for other stuff to make. Among other things, a bag out of the wool that [livejournal.com profile] brightshadowsky/[livejournal.com profile] yarnpirate and I recycled. And ohhh have I got ideas for sweaters! I'm starting to get a grasp of patterns now, so watch out! I just can't seem to stop knitting lately. Though I should start up with some of the other crafts I've got going soon.

I will try and post pictures though, once I have a camera available. Until then, I'm afraid you'll have to take me on my word ^_~
naelany: (knitting cat)
I found another icon online, thanks to Google. Not much out there that I care to use though. But, it's new and it's crafty and it's a cat. Knitting. *chuckles*

I didn't finish the sweater today after all. Just wanted to knit, dangit. So, that is what I have been doing. Hehe, I just want to finish this turtle neck so badly. Is that a bad thing? ^_~
naelany: (Default)
*grins* I did it! I started on the front of the sweater. I got stuck on the same darned piece as before, but managed to figure it out..all on my lonesome! Woohoo! I've gotten quite a ways already, I can't wait to get it done. I want to really keep on knitting right now, but I should probably try and get some rest. Damnable knitting bug (yeah right, like I mean that!).
Tomorrow I shall try and tackle the other sweater, so it'll be put together when Trina comes. Hopefully she'll have some time and stuff to sit down with me and teach me the crochet stitch I'll need in order to finish it. *crosses fingers* One can always hope.
Then, the only thing that needs finishing this week, is a prayer shawl, with which I'm 3/4 done already, so that shouldn't take too long either.
This is so cool though, to finally see the end on two projects I never thought I'd be able to do ^_^. Weee ^_^
naelany: (Default)
I had a knitting day with [livejournal.com profile] brightshadowsky, and it was a load of fun. You can read about it in my regular LJ. So I'm not going to waste to much time here on that subject. But it was fun, and I can't wait to do it again!

She helped me figure out the sleeves on a T I had started last year, so now I can finish it. I haven't done so yet, because I'll have to edge it with crochet, and I don't know the stitch needed yet. I'll need Trina's help with it, and I know I won't see her for a few days yet, so instead....
Instead! I have been working on the turtleneck sweater. I had some trouble understanding the pattern, but [livejournal.com profile] brightshadowsky got me over the roughest spot, which I am grateful for. Since I got home, I've been doing nothing but knitting (well, almost nothing), and I'm now done with the back!!! I had to call her once today to get some help, because the pattern was intent on confusing me, but other then that, I figured it out on my own. Well, sort of. I enlisted Dustin's help, or rather, his logic thinking, and between the two of us, it got worked out. I'm so pleased! I haven't started on the front yet, because I have been too busy catching up on LJ, but I will most likely do that tomorrow (it's getting close to bedtime for me),and then it shouldn't take me long at all to finish that. Then I'll just have to put it together and then figure out how to pick up stitches. May have to go to an LYS for that though, since I've never done that before.

*squeels with delight* Check out my new icon!!! [livejournal.com profile] brightshadowsky just made it for me *snugs [livejournal.com profile] brightshadowsky* Thank you!!!!! It's awesome and cool and just what I wanted!!!!! *does happy dance* And she's going to make me another one too, as soon as I send the picture to her. Weeeee!!! ^_^

Uhm..I'm sure there was more I was going to write, but now I've plum forgotten! Oh wait! We went and got a sweater to frog at Salvie's, and now I've got a ton of wool/roving in my closet, just begging to be made into a felted bag ^_^. I've got so many ideas for that yarn that I'm not sure what exactly will happen to it. But I've got another project in the planning. Like there aren't enough already, right ^_~. But it's all good. I'll finally get a bag for my knitting projects. No more plastic bags!

*sighs* Ohhh, to be able to do all the things that come to mind when browsing a LYS ^_^. Some day!
naelany: (Default)
Huzzah!!! I finished the back of the turtleneck sweater!!! *does a victory dance* I'm so going to get this finished before this week is over ^_^ Woohoo!
