So, we went to Costco today after taking in oodles of cans and bottles (from Trina, thank you!) and went and bought some really cheap yeast. $2.99 for 32 ounces! Can you believe it? Someone on the cooking community I just joined told me about it, and I just couldn't believe it. So now we can make bread, and lots of it, yay! At least that means there'll always be something to eat in the house now, which is a very good thing.
I'm actually attempting to bake chocolate bread right now, I hope it works out. It's "inspired" by some bread I had back in Holland, which was chocolate with almonds (chopped, of course), chocolate chips and raisins. If I'm lucky, this'll turn out just as well. ^_^ Can't wait!
This morning we made the same recipe as yesterday, but altered it slightly. I ended up putting in some potato flakes and used brown sugar instead of regular. It is yummy!! Gives it a little extra something. Definately something to try again! I'm so pleased! ^_^ I've got tons of ideas already of what I want to do with the breadmaker, can't wait to try it all. And best of all, it's cheap, because most of the stuff we'll need, we already have, so couldn't be better!

Ok, enough babble about bread *chuckles*. I'm sorry, I'm just very excited about it.
Dustin and I were talking this morning about what all we'd like to do as far as cooking and what have you goes. I'd like to learn to can food if possible, and also to make my own jerky, and Dustin wants to brew his own beer (so do I). Add to that that he wants to do tanning (I know, not food, but still) and that makes for a lot of space needed to do it all. I'm wondering what else you could do though. I'd love to learn to really cook and bake, from scratch. Oh...I'd love to learn how to garden and grow my own veggies and stuff. It's not like I don't have the time. Though I may not have the back for it.
You know what's funny... I'd love to learn the traditional things, but I know of no one that could teach them to me. Perhaps if we were to go to the SCA events, there'd be people there. I don't know. I should ask [livejournal.com profile] elfie_chan and Alex about that when they get back from Egils. I know they do a lot of stuff there. *ponders*
I would just love to learn all the traditional things, but with modern day conveniences. I don't think I could stand going to one of those places where you have to live like they used to, just so I could learn. I happen to like today, thank you very much. I just find that too much of yesteryear's been forgotten, or at best neglected.
Wonder where you could find out more about things. I don't even know exactly what I'm after, so googling isn't exactly an option...... Is there any place around here where I can go and look at things and say "yes, I want to learn this" or "no, this isn't for me"? That'd be really nice... *sighs whistfully*

Ok, 'nough rambling for now. I'm going back to my crochet. By the way, I've found out that I much prefer making big granny squares as apposed to many smaller ones. I dislike making the center of granny squares.

**edit** Mmmk, so that bread went straight to the bin, didn't rise long enough. But, we're trying again, right now as a matter of fact. We've now learned that settings are your friend, and hopefully it is now on the right one ^_^
